A local nonprofit has begun a campaign that will run until the end of November to fund Christmas programs.

Just Make it Happen is collecting donations for preschool children and adults to be able to participate in Brass Spirit, a traveling mini-concert expected to begin in the first week of December, said John Smith, Just Make It Happen president. The Kishwaukee Brass Quintet will perform holiday music during the concerts.

“It’s a lot of fun, and the Christmas music has so many tunes that people remember and they just love to have it come,” Smith said. “So it would be something that is very special.”

Donors are encouraged to sponsor a preschool, elementary education or a public community concert and to specify interest and location for the Christmas program. The performances may be held throughout DeKalb in facilities such as preschools, nursing homes and homeless shelters, among other places, Smith said.

“We’re trying to have fun and we’re trying to help the entire community, from Northern students to people that live in the community and families and everything,” Smith said.

Another way community members can donate is to purchase a live recording of local music group John Smith and the Shenanigans Big Band. All proceeds will go toward the budget of a nonprofit aiming to produce a Christmas program, Smith Said.
