‘Gilmore Girls’ returns

By Morgan Carrigan

When news hit Twitter that “Gilmore Girls” was coming back as a mini Netflix series, I am positive I wasn’t the only one shrieking with joy.

After an eight-year hiatus, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore may be back consuming ungodly amounts of caffeine and I am nothing short of excited. The last episode left me disappointed and feigning for more. I needed closure, and I am utterly happy that I may get it.

Lets talk about our losses first, because there are a few. Edward Herrmann, who portrayed Richard Gilmore, unfortunately passed away last year (Friday night dinners will no longer be the same.) Liza Weil, known as Paris Geller and Rory’s best friend in the show, and Melissa McCarthy, who plays Snookie St. James, did not show signs of returning to the show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Although these key characters will be missing, I am sure the original writer, Amy Sherman-Palladino, has some ideas on how to make the show even better. Palladino didn’t write the last series due to a conflict with Warner Bros., but is back to create the new series, according to the Hollywood Reporter. I have high hopes she won’t disappoint although bringing back a series that has been absent for so long can end in disaster.

I have an array of opinions about the possible revival due to my constant, repetitive binging on this show. In a perfect world, this is how I would want the series to end:

Rory will be back with Logan:

Rory and Logan, played by Matt Czuchry, had a roller coaster of a relationship throughout their Yale careers. At the end of the season, Logan proposed at Rory’s graduation, but she wasn’t ready to commit, so he ended it. She is ready now, my friends. I believe Palladino will write them back together and they will be happier then ever, or at least I hope.

Lorelai and Luke will be married:

We were left hanging on with Lorelai and Luke, played by Scott Patterson. She could never decide between him or Christopher, but the last episode hinted that they will continue their up and down engagement. I hope they are happily married, and possibly starting a family for the reboot.

Rory will have her dream job:

We all watched Rory excel at Yale when she pursued a degree in journalism. She dreamed to be Christiane Amanpour, journalist and television host. I hope this series introduces a successful Rory, traveling the world doing what she loves, with Logan by her side of course.

Luke will work on being a father:

During the last two seasons, we watched Luke and April’s awkward relationship begin. We saw them meet and slowly build the dad-daughter relationship. Although it was uncomfortable at points, you saw the love Luke had for her. I hope this mini-series introduces a happy Luke and April being a solid little family and not so uncomfortable.

Kirk will have a stable job, maybe:

Lastly, and maybe my favorite idea of the new mini series, Kirk, played by Sean Gunn, will have a stable job. In almost every episode, Kirk was bouncing around job after job, popping up everywhere. I am hoping Kirk will have a stable, successful job in the series, but also maybe not — he doesn’t seem like the type.
