College Life Hacks: Clean your face, avoid dandruff, clean your microwave
February 9, 2015
Do you have acne and don’t want to spend money on gimmicky face wash products? Do you have dry hair and dandruff care products won’t relieve your scalp? Is your microwave filled with the leftovers? If you said “yes” to one of those questions then have no fear: I have the solutions to your problems.
Why spend money on expensive “miracle” face products when you could use that money for food? I will tell you how to inexpensively and effectively clean your face with products you already have in your room.
Cleanser
Items you will need: a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, regular bathing soap and a wash cloth
1. Take a shower at night.
2. Instead of using a special product for your face just use a regular bar of soap. I know commercials say that doesn’t work, but think about it: Why would a bar of soap clean your body but not your face?
3. Use your hand to massage the soap on your face instead of a towel or rag. This will lessen irritability.
4. After your shower has ended, instead of using after-wash facial cream, just open a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and put some on a wash cloth.
5. Rub the cloth on areas of your face where you notice a breakout.
6. Let your face dry overnight and the next day your pimples will have reduced in size.
Dandruff
You can easily fix your dry scalp problem with these steps.
Items you will need: baby oil, shampoo and conditioner
1. When you’re in the shower, wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner. I like to use a 2-in-1 product because it saves time and gets the job done.
2. After you get out of the shower, dry your hair and embrace the softness for a few seconds.
3. When your hair is slightly damp, apply a quarter-sized amount of baby oil to it. I know it sounds silly, but trust me on this one. The oil maintains the moisture in your scalp and keeps it from becoming dry.
Clean your microwave
Many kids use a microwave in college as residence halls don’t allow stoves. Over time the gunk from your food splashes all over the insides of the microwave and it gets pretty disgusting. I will show you a trick that will speed up your clean-up process with this quick life hack.
Items you will need: a bowl, water and a sponge
1. Take out a small, microwavable cereal bowl. Fill it with water.
2. Place the bowl inside your microwave and let it run for two to three minutes. The steam will loosen up the gunk inside.
3. After the timer goes off, carefully take out the bowl and place it to the side.
4. Grab your sponge. Use it to wipe away all the gunk. You are now the owner of a freshly clean microwave that you can use with pride.
