NIU track & field: Huskies notch 11 top-10 finishes at Purdue

Track and field continued its preparation for the upcoming MAC Indoor Championships this weekend at the Fred Wilt Invitational hosted by Purdue.

The Huskies produced 11 top-10 finishes Friday and Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. They’ll have one more event ­— Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational — before the MAC Indoor Championships Feb. 27 and 28 in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Senior sprinter Julianne Cronin won the 600-meter run (1:33.95).

Sophomore sprinter A’Iesha Irvin-Muhammad placed fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.57) and second in the 200-meter dash (24.51).

Freshman sprinter Ashanti Hutton took seventh in the 400-meter dash (57.75).

Freshman jumper Chennel Palmer and senior jumper Michaela Dwyer posted high jumps of 1.64 meters, which put them in a four-way first place tie.

Sophomore distance runner Carly Pederson finished fourth in the 5K run (18:43.96).

Senior sprinter/jumper Latesha Bigby finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.60).

Senior thrower Sidra Sherrill finished sixth in the shot put (14.41 meters). Senior Erin Scott took ninth (13.49 meters) and sophomore Tyra Bickham rounded out the top 10 (13.17 meters) in the event.
