Students to dress up for Hollywood prom in Grant Hall

Students will be able to dress up and dance at the Grant Hollywood prom today.

The prom is 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Grant North towers. The event is open to all students and is free. The dress code is formal.

“It is different this year and bigger,” said Hannah Rahmin, freshman political science major. “There will be lots of food, music and photography. The pictures will be posted online to be printed by the students.”

The hall directors received help from students like Rahmin, who is a host for the prom.

Rahmin said organizers expect about 100 people to attend the Grant Hollywood prom.

There will be a competition for king and queen, with the victor chosen by students. Attendees will get a paper at the door to vote.

Grant North Towers used to host a dance in the spring. That event ended last year, so the hall director decided to host prom night.

Freshman nursing major Julia Bird is excited to attend the prom.

“I am expecting it to be big and fun because I am seeing posters everywhere,” said freshman nursing major Julia Bird.

Oluseun Taiwo, freshman mechanical engineering major, plans to go the dance.

“It’s a formal prom and no jeans. The idea is to dress nicely and feel pretty,” Taiwo said.

Rahmin hopes a lot of students will attend to hang out with their friends.

“I’m hoping there is going to be a lot of people and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Erik Cabrera, freshman mechanical engineering major. “I am excited to see and experience how it is.”
