Transfers get info during informational event

“Once a Huskie, always a Huskie” was the theme of Friday’s Transfers Get Info Fridays event.

The TGIF was held 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Williston Hall. TGIF events provide an opportunity for students and parents to meet with admissions counselors, hear transfer-specific presentations and tour the campus and residence halls. Prospective students planning on transferring to NIU came for an informational session arranged by the admissions office to help them assist with the transfer process.

“We are here to let them know what NIU has to offer them to succeed and open a wide array of resources for them,” said Northern Ambassadors member Jebori Coleman.

Coleman welcomed students and their families when they entered Williston Hall and then guided them to Gilbert Hall for a series of presentations and interactions with the transfer counselor.

Students who signed up or applied to NIU were invited to the event through email. The presentations included some of the resources NIU offers to students like career services, housing, extracurricular events and more.

“I came to know about NIU from my family friend and I want to have more information about the school and the transfer process,” said Amanda Munday, College of Lake County student.

Students and parents were introduced to many scholarships NIU has to offer to transfer students.

“We would love to receive some kind of financial aid from the college as we want our daughter to study in NIU,” said Jasmin Taylor, mother of a prospective student.

The event was concluded by a visit to Gilbert Hall and an optional visit to Stevenson Hall. The next TGIF will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. March 7 in Williston Hall.
