History pioneer honored at event

NIU’s sixth History Graduate Student Association Conference will honor former professor Alfred F. Young, a pioneer in the field of early American history.

The conference, sponsored by the Department of History, is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 in Swen Parson Hall

Linda Kerber, professor at the University of Iowa and the former American Historical Association president, will deliver the first annual Alfred F. Young Keynote Address entitled, Alfred F. Young: The Ethics of a Scholarly Life. Six colonial American historians will be there at 3:35 p.m. for a roundtable discussion on Young’s work, legacy and influence on the study of early American history.

Attendance is free and open to the public.
