Aliens, elders fight death at movies

“Ender’s Game”

Ready for a humans vs. aliens battle in space? Orson Scott Card’s best-selling novel, “Ender’s Game,” is now an intense action-packed movie.

The story is about the people of Earth needing a leader to help fight off an alien attack. The military sets its sights on a young man who is a brilliant commander.

Lead actor Asa Butterfield, who is most known for his voice acting in the movie “Hugo,” may get his big break here. Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley also showcase their acting ability in this action, sci-fi film. Ford’s last notable performance was in “42,” while Kingsley’s last was in “Iron Man 3.”

The computer graphics and cinematography look like they will make for an amazing action movie. Although fans of novels do not always enjoy the movie adaptations, “Ender’s Game” may be an exception.

“Last Vegas”

If the hilarious movie “Grown Ups” merged with “The Hangover,” “Last Vegas” would be the unique outcome.

“Last Vegas” follows four best friends heading to Vegas to have one last bachelor party. There’s not much more to this movie except humorous shenanigans. The movie appears to be funny, but it looks as if the only jokes told by the characters are about themselves being old.

Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline have good chemistry. Writer Dan Fogelman turned this into a good movie. He’s known for writing “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “Tangled” and the Cars series.

Director Jon Turteltaub has not made any notable films in the past six years except for the National Treasure movies and the show “Jericho.”

The trailer could have been more entertaining, seeing as there isn’t much to offer. Senior citizen jokes and silliness will probably be the only highlights in this film. This might only be appealing to fans of the actors.
