Military jackets infiltrate fall student fashion scene

October is perfect for busting out military jackets.

Men and women rock this trend with little effort, and it gives their style an edgy feel. Wear it to class or when you’re out and about. Women should wear the jacket over a T-shirt for a light coverup. They can also wear it over a dress for a casual look. The green of the army jacket goes with most colors and styles.

The jacket can be either oversized or fitted for women; however, men have more brands to work with the jacket. Tommy Hilfiger, Jack Spade and Fine and Dandy popularized the military trend. The designers made variations of combat boots, canvas bags and camo clothing.

“You can literally take this trend as far as you want, you can even implement it easily into your style now,” according to MenFashionStye.com. “In fact, that is what I’d recommend, simply just add one or two aspects from the military look into your closet. Otherwise your go from the casual looker, to a military officer in just one day.

“Shop for a jacket that goes well with both denim jeans as well as a pair of pants and that can easily go from day to night.”

A simple outfit that works well is a slim-fitted utility jacket, a plain T-shirt and a pair of jeans. It is a well-polished, put-together outfit.

Try military cardigans if it’s too warm for a jacket. It is a great alternative to the jacket, and you can add combat boots for another small dose of military fashion. The boots work best with skinny or narrow-leg jeans. When wearing the boots, remember to tuck your jeans into them, and skip baggy jeans to avoid looking like Justin Bieber.

Always remember the military look is great in small doses. Avoid dressing in head-to-toe military; instead, wear one or two things that are military chic.
