Affleck has talent, looks for new Batman flick

Ben Affleck will serve justice in the role of Batman for Gotham City as we know it.

Director Zack Snyder and writer David S. Goyer are in production of the “Man of Steel” sequel, which will feature Superman and Batman. Thursday, Warner Bros. Pictures made the shocking announcement that Academy Award winning actor, director and writer Affleck will be the new Batman.

People all over the Internet were outraged over this casting with #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck trending worldwide on Twitter. Fans started pointing to films like “Gigli” and “Daredevil” to support their claims of Affleck being the worst possible Batman. I couldn’t agree less with any of those people: Affleck’s casting could continue the greatness of Batman of which Christopher Nolan reminded many movie lovers.

I expect to see Affleck assisting in writing and directing, areas where he has shined for a while now. With films like “Gone Baby Gone” and “Good Will Hunting,” Affleck has the track record to back him up on both sides of the camera.

Affleck brings the acting chops to play a Batman who is the intelligent, intimidating and brooding Bruce Wayne comic book fans know and love.

Throughout “Argo,” Affleck plays a soft-spoken CIA agent doing what he knows is right despite the disapproval of his peers. This sounds strikingly similar to a masked vigilante we know. Viewers can see the cunning and intelligence of the world’s greatest detective, Batman, as Affleck formulates his plan to extract government employees trapped in 1980s Iran by making a fake movie.

One bizarre criticism I heard was Affleck isn’t intimidating enough to be Batman. I suppose being 6-foot-4 and around 200 pounds just doesn’t cut it anymore. If you aren’t intimidated by Affleck yet, you may want to watch his incredible crime drama “The Town.” Affleck plays a Boston bank robber who has the look of a man who could both beat you down and outsmart you.

If the Dark Knight was anyone in Hollywood, Ben Affleck would certainly be a good guess.
