Track and field completes regular season at Wisconsin

In its final weekend of regular-season competition NIU track and field split up and headed to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

On Thursday and Friday, a group of athletes competed in the Penn Relays. In the 100 meters, Janay Mitchell clinched a spot in the MAC outdoor meet as she placed 19th with a run of 11.91. Fellow sprinter Chanel Kellyman grabbed 25th with a 12.53.

In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Megan Gregory ended her regular season with a 12th place finish, running a 13.86.

In the West Chester Last Chance Qualifier, NIU had a first-place finish in the 800 meters. Julianne Cronin ran a 2:17.41, beating out second place by 8.5 seconds in a field of 25.

Two other NIU runners took second place, as Brittany Smith ran a 12.29 in the 100 meters out of 21 and Jenelle McCalla ran a 1:04.85 in the 400 meter hurdles out of eight. Sidra Sherrill came in second out of 13 in the discus as she threw a 142-02.

In the final meet of the weekend and the season, NIU sent a group to the UW-Whitewater Alternative meet.

In the field, Natalie Tarter jumped a 5-03.00 in the high jump to claim a personal best, finishing third place out of 17. Olivia Herzog finished third in both shot put (out of 16) and discus (out of 19) with a 132-05 in the discus and a 42-04.00 in the shot put.

The 4×400 relay ended the season strong, as Alexandra Rowe, Kristal Pitts, Erica Miller and Lydia Mitchell won the event with a 4:09.57 out of four teams.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Tarter ran a 14.97 in the 100-meter hurdles to set a personal record. She finished second out of 15 in the prelims.

Meanwhile, Claire McAuley took third out of eight in the 5,000 meters, running an 18:37.36.
