High school students who graduate in Chicago may have their application fees waived and financial aid loans eliminated when they attend the University of Chicago, according to The Associated Press.

The university will do this through a program called UChicago Promise. According to The Associated Press, the program includes an admissions academy designed to help students, their families and counselors go through the college application process and look for financial aid.

Robert Zimmer, University of Chicago president, said UChicago Promise is the answer to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s call to improve college opportunities for public school students.

According to The Associated Press, Emanuel praised the university for a program he said will help Chicago youths achieve their goals and graduate without financial burdens. The annual cost of attending the University of Chicago is about $61,300, according to The Associated Press. The cost includes room and board, tuition, books and fees.
