By Northern Star Staff

The NIU Community School of the Arts is holding a concerto competition for local youth musicians.

The annual CSA Sinfonia Concerto Competition is open to anyone 18 or younger who lives within a 75-mile radius of DeKalb. All vocalists and musicians who meet these qualifications are welcome to apply.

Applications are due Oct. 22, and auditions will take Nov. 5 in the NIU Music Building. Auditions must feature an appropriate one-movement composition or one movement of a standard solo concerto. Audition music must be performed from memory, and the time limit for audition pieces is eight minutes.

The winner of the concerto competition will perform with the CSA Sinfonia on Feb. 20 in the NIU Music Building. The winning audition will also receive a $200 cash prize.

Applications and guidelines can be found online at the NIU Community School of Arts website, www.csa.niu.edu. This information can also be found at the NIU CSA office, Room 132, of the Music Building. The CSA Sinfonia is under the direction of Linc Smelser, and members are selected by audition.
