The DeKalb Firefighters Historical Foundation is hosting a pancake breakfast and open house Sunday. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at DeKalb Fire Station No. 1, 700 Pine St.

“The DeKalb Firefighters Foundation is a new nonprofit organization whose goal is to preserve and collect historical items of the fire department,” said Todd Stoffa, chairman of the foundation. “We’re trying to raise money for the foundation with hopes that one day we can open up a museum dedicated to the history of the DeKalb Fire Department.”

Interim Fire Chief Eric Hicks said historical components from the fire department will be displayed.

“We will have a historical display set up of all apparatuses that we use now and of previous vehicles that have been retired,” Hicks said. “This includes a 1930 Seagrave Ladder Truck and a 1951 Mack fire engine.”

Along with the breakfast, there will be tours of the fire department and a fire safety trailer for children to participate in so they learn about fire safety.

The price of the breakfast will be $5 for adults, $3 for children aged 4 to 10. Children under 4 are free.
