Huskie briefs for 5/01/12

NIU baseball’s Kyle Glancy and women’s golf’s Kelsie Passolt were named the NIU Scholar Athletes of the Week for April 23 through April 29, according to a press release.

Glancy, a senior marketing major, earned two saves over the weekend against Eastern Michigan. The Oak Park native recorded his ninth save in a 1-0 victory Friday, then his 10th in a 3-1 win Sunday. Glancy didn’t allow a single hit in both of his appearances, and struck out three of the eight batters he faced.

Glancy is third all-time in career saves at NIU, and he needs four more to tie the record of 26.

Passolt, a senior broadcast journalism major, had her lowest score in the season for a three-round event. She tied for eighth in the MAC Championship with a score 223. The Hayward, Wis. native scored a 75 in the final round, which was the lowest score of her season.

Track and field finishes regular season at Drake Relays

NIU track and field finished its regular season at the Drake Relays and UW-Whitewater Alternative Meet this weekend. I

n the Drake Relays, the Huskies set three records in the 4×100 relay, 4X200 relay and the distance medley.

In the 4×100 the quartet of Chanel Kellyman, Roneisha Frye , Janay Mitchell and Rasheta Butler set a school record with a time of 45.52. They also broke the 4×200 record with a time of 1:36:68 taking second place overall in that event.

Finally, in the distance medley relay, Courtney Oldenburg, Julianne and Rebecca Cronin and Juliane Totzke finished with a time of 11:46.58.

“The 4×100, distance medley and 4×200 relay competitors rose to the occasion, producing great times with strong finishes”, said NIU coach Connie Teaberry in a press release.

In the final regular season meet. the Huskies won seven events at the UW-Whitewater Alternative Meet. Erica Miller finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 59.28. Katie Janssen won the 5000 meters with a career best time of 18:31.22. Alexandra Rowe won the 100 meter with a time of 13.46

Erin Milner and Janelle McCalla finished with the top two spots in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.01 and 1:03.77.

The Huskies are now preparing for 2012 MAC Outdoor Championships taking place May 10 through May 12.
