City blotter for 3/19/12

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
March 7
At 5:27 p.m., DeKalb police responded to report of a female who was shot with a BB gun in the 900 block of Crane Drive. The suspect, Victor J. Craig, 25, of Berkley, was charged with having failure to appear warrants, two counts of domestic battery, resisting a peace officer, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession with intent to deliver, trespassing and aggravated battery to a pregnant woman.
March 12
At 11:40 p.m., DeKalb police received a report of a male who damaged one of the entry card readers and then broke a building’s exterior sign which was valued at $1,700. The building manager reviewed surveillance video that showed both incidents. The manager recognized the suspect as the brother of a current tenant. The manager provided a name, address and photograph of him as well. DeKalb police located Eric A. Johnson, 29, of DeKalb, in the 1300 block of West Lincoln Highway and placed him under arrest. Johnson said he was so drunk the previous night that he did not remember damaging anything. The officer served Johnson with a banning notice from the property and received a felony approval from the assistant state’s attorney. Johnson was taken to DeKalb County Jail.
Saturday
At 9:52 p.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol ran a registration check on a 1994 Chevrolet. The officer learned the registered owner had a suspended license. The driver of the vehicle matched the description of the registered owner. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road. The driver, Quincy R. Pettis, 26, of DeKalb, identified himself as the registered owner and could not produce valid insurance. Pettis was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
Sunday
At 2:05 a.m., DeKalb police observed a vehicle in the 500 block of East Lincoln Highway with headlights on, but no taillights. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver, John Patrick Coyne, 24, of Oswego, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, and smelled of alcoholic liquor. Coyne failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit a breath sample. Coyne was charged with driving under the influence and having no taillights.
