By Northern Star Staff

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

At 11:50 p.m., a DeKalb police officer observed vehicle in the 1400 block of Sycamore Road traveling southbound. Using a hand held radar, the officer clocked the vehicle at 57 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer initiated at traffic stop. The driver, Carlos O. Steele Jr., 18, of Chicago, provided the officer with an Illinois ID card and the officer found Steele’s license was suspended. Steele was arrested, taken to the DeKalb police station and later released on bond.

At 2:15 a.m., DeKalb police were dispatched to the 116 block of North Ninth Street for an individual spray painting in the apartment’s laundry room. The complainant described the suspect who was located outside the building, smelling like spray paint. The police checked the laundry room and discovered fresh painted graffiti. Kevin D. Timm, 33, of DeKalb, had paint on his hands that matched the graffiti. Timm was charged with criminal defacement and unlawful possession of cannabis. Timm was arrested, transported to the DeKalb Police Department and later taken to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
