Expect warmer weather during ‘transitional period’

By Olivia Willoughby

Mother Nature strikes again, but this time, the weather will be warmer.

Staff meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said we are entering a transitional period that is more “spring-like.”

“There will be less snow and more rain,” Sebenste said. “I think we’ll see a few inches of rain with the systems coming through.”

Although it is too early to tell if Mother Nature will hit DeKalb with another snowstorm, the rain should wash away the snow from Thursday’s storm.

“That’s not to say we won’t have snow, at least over the next week,” Sebenste said.

Similar to the weather of previous weeks, temperatures will continue to fluctuate.

“It’s going to be up and down. We’ll primarily be stuck in the 30s and 40s through Sunday and Monday,” Sebenste said. “The jet stream is a yo-yo, going north and south. But it’s going right over us.”

With the ever-changing weather patterns, sophomore psychology major Alora Schoenhofen said she wishes the weather would stay consistent.

“I can save money on my electric bill by turning off my heat and opening my windows,” Schoenhofen said. “I’m getting cabin fever from this awful weather.

Senior accounting major Aleesha Alshanski said the weather is “bipolar.”

“It’s like the weather doesn’t know whether to stay winter or start turning into spring,” Alshanski said.

Despite the Mother Nature’s inconsistencies, one thing will certainly stick around.

“One thing’s for sure: there’s going to be a lot of mud around as we go through the first week of March,” Sebenste said.
