City blotter for 2/27/12

Friday
At 12:06 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office police responded to an accident on Twombly Road east of Schafer Road involving an ATV and a snowmobile. The ATV became stuck in a snow bank and the snowmobile rear-ended the ATV, ejecting the ATV driver. The driver of the ATV was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. The driver of the snowmobile, Colton J. Plapp, 15, of Malta, was charged with operating a snowmobile while under the influence. The accident remains under investigation.
At 3:03 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office police stopped a vehicle on Annie Glidden Road south of Malta Road because the registered owner had a suspended drivers license. The driver, Dominique Richardson, 27, of Chicago, was arrested for driving while license was suspended. Richardson was transported to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office where he is being held pending bond.
At 9:15 p.m., a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy was stopped on First Street north of Rich Road for a vehicle in the ditch. Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the squad car. When the squad car was struck, the squad car then struck the tow truck that was on the scene to remove the original vehicle in the ditch. Gregory L. Heintz, 17, of Sycamore, was charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
At 9:23 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two vehicle accident and discovered the offending vehicle had fled the scene. Deputies questioned the driver of the remaining vehicle, Gary Carter, 51, of Sycamore, about any knowledge of the accident or identity of the fleeing driver. Carter denied any knowledge or involvement. Deputies later learned Carter had concealed information. Carter was arrested for obstructing of justice and transported to the DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
Saturday
At 1:09 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a blue Mercury traveling eastbound in the 400 block of East Lincoln Highway without headlights. The officer initiated a traffic stop and smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the driver. The driver, Steven L. Hart, 25, of Shabbona, had stuttered speech and explained he saw the other vehicle but did not know what to do. Hart was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and over .08, no headlights and no insurance.
At 2:37 a.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office police responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Annie Glidden Road south of Bethany Road. The driver, Kailey Helgesen, 19, of Wheaton, was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
Sunday
At 1:24 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol was stopped at a light facing northbound at First Street and Lincoln Highway and observed a red Hyundai turn from Lincoln Highway onto North First Street at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Nicholas J. Schleicher, 28, of DeKalb, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and no insurance.
At 5:19 a.m., DeKalb police were dispatched to the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road for a 911 hang-up call.
On the way, dispatch called the number back. A man said everything was OK, but a female yelled for help in the background. The woman called again and reported being battered. Allen Jermaine Seaberry, 27, of Chicago, was found walking down Annie Glidden Road and was wanted on two warrants. Seaberry was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic battery, criminal trespassing, theft, had a failure to appear warrant and a parole violation warrant.
