City blotter for 10/24/11

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Thursday

  • At 10:35 p.m., DeKalb Police observed a vehicle in the 700 block of Blooming Drive fail to yield when making a turn. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the driver, Luis C. Rodriguez, 30, of Wheaton, had a valid warrant. The officer searched the vehicle and found cannabis, drug paraphernalia and prescription medication. Rodriguez was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Friday

  • At 12:06 a.m., DeKalb Police checked the registration of a vehicle in the 800 block of S. First Street. The officer found the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The officer performed a traffic stop and learned the owner was not driving the vehicle. The driver, Michael V. Donegan, 22, of Malta, was found to be driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Donegan was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, no insurance and possession of cannabis. Donegan was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later released on bond.
  • At 5:11 p.m., DeKalb Police responded to the 1000 block of Crane Drive for a report of domestic trouble. The complainant had called police for assistance in removing her boyfriend from her apartment. Upon arrival, police assisted the caller in removing her boyfriend, Darvis S. Yates, 24, of Chicago Heights, from the property. Shortly after, police received a call from apartment security stating Yates had returned to the property and was sitting on the stoop smoking cannabis. Yates was arrested, charged with possession of cannabis and served a ban notice from the property. Yates was taken to the DeKalb Police Station and later transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Saturday

  • At 1:39 a.m., DeKalb Police checked the license plates of a vehicle in the 700 block of Annie Glidden Road and learned the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The officer performed a traffic stop and found the registered owner, David C. Okeke, 21, of DeKalb, was driving. Okeke was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later released on bond.

Sunday

  • At 2:52 a.m., DeKalb Police responded to the 1200 block of Market Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival the officer made contact with three individuals sleeping in the vehicle. One individual, Giovanni N. Beaudry, 21, a transient, was found to have a valid warrant out of DeKalb County. Beaudry was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Station. He was later transported to DeKalb County Jail. The other two occupants were released at the scene.
