DeKALB | Local bars and restaurants have big things planned for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

“We will be opening the doors at 10 a.m. and will be offering a free Guinness glass to the first ten patrons at this time to spend at their leisure,” said Beth Manley, waitress at O’Leary’s Irish Pub and Grill, 260 E. Lincoln Highway.

Manley said they will also have festive drink specials for the occasion.

O’Leary’s will also be serving corn beef and cabbage for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Friday to celebrate.

“We have consistently made 900 pounds of corned beef over the past four years for St. Patrick’s Day,” said O’Leary’s owner Mel Witmer. “We will also be helping out the community by donating some corned beef to Hope Haven.”

There will also be a contest on Thursday during which the best dressed leprechaun will receive $100. Witmer said the judging will begin at 9 p.m..

“It’s a big party with plenty of prizes, raffles and games,” Witmer said. “I recommend people take the next day off.”

Starbusters Bar and Grill, 930 Pappas Drive, will be hosting an unofficial St. Patrick’s Day party where they will be serving green beer all day.

“We are having this party this year because St. Patrick’s Day falls on spring break and most students will be out of town,” said general manager Kevin Pratt. “There will be plenty of giveaways.”

Fatty’s Pub and Grill, 1312 W. Lincoln Highway, will open at 10 a.m. and will be showing all of the NCAA Tournament games that are set to start on St. Patrick’s Day.

“Every year we have the DeKalb Fire Department Bagpiper’s come in and put on a show,” said Owner Jeff Dobie. “They start at 5 p.m. so make sure to get here on time.”

Dobie said Fatty’s is also offering green beer and drink specials and will be serving corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and rye bread all day. Customers will be treated to T-shirts, beads, and there is also a “you keep the mug” special.

With all of these celebrations and specials, people should not have a problem finding things to do on St. Patrick’s day.
