Apartment rates in DeKalb are too high for students

By Letter Writer

The apartment rates in DeKalb are extremely high.

I feel that they are asking for a lot of money for students that are attending school; some students are not able to pay that much.

I think they should have an option for monthly or semester leases. That way, you will not have to be charged late fees.

Many students go home for the summer and to have a yearly lease means that they have to still pay rent.

I like the fact that some landlords allow students to pay their rent with their financial aid and not be charged late fees because this gives students a chance to get out of the dorms.

Another problem that I discovered is that many different properties are asking for first month’s rent, last month’s rent and a security deposit.

That will be too much for someone who has no job and comes from a less fortunate family.

The landlords should review different property payment plans and come up with one for people who have no job, financial aid or income.
