Campus crime blotter for 11/29/10

Aug. 23

  • At 3:55 p.m., a theft was reported from the Art Building. Two laptops were missing. With no leads or further information, this case is administratively closed.

Sept. 15

  • At 1:49 p.m., an officer responded to the NIU Police Department for a report of a hit and run. Upon arrival, he met with a complainant who stated that a black SUV struck the back side of his left leg and hit his backpack. This occurred earlier between 9:50 and 9:55 a.m. near Graham Hall. The SUV drove off. With no leads or further information, this case is administratively closed.

Oct. 9

  • At 12:10 a.m., officers responded to the report of a disorderly subject at Domino’s Pizza, 901 Lucinda Ave. Daniel Decoster, Jr., 19, of Crystal Lake, reportedly battered another person and resisted officers. This case is cleared by adult arrest.

Oct. 12

  • Illegal possession by a minor and possession of 30 grams or less of cannabis at Grant South at 8:47 p.m.

Nov. 2

  • At 10:20 p.m., a residential burglary was reported at Neptune East. A resident stated someone stole his PlayStation from his room. This case is closed pending the discovery of new information.

Nov. 16

  • At 5:09 p.m., the theft of a backpack containing several items was reported. This case is now closed pending the discovery of new information.

Nov. 21

  • At 2:07 p.m., a domestic battery, theft and interference with emergency equipment were reported at Neptune East. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 3:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to a fight in progress near John Street. Both DeKalb County officers and NIU Police arrived on scene. Two subjects were instructed to stop for questioning, but they instead took off running with officers in foot pursuit. After apprehending one, the officer placed Harlan Johnson, 19, of Sycamore, under arrest for resisting a peace officer and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. A warrant was sought for the other offender.

 

  • At 7:40 p.m., a subject at Neptune North was given a referral to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for possession of drug equipment.
  • At 10:48 p.m., a subject wanted for questioning was located at Lincoln Hall Service Drive. When his name was checked, Shinda Crowell, 18, of Berwyn, was found in violation of a banning order. Crowell was then arrested for criminal trespass to land and transported to DeKalb County Jail. This case is closed by adult arrest.

Monday

  • At 8:30 p.m., an officer on patrol noticed a subject at Grant Towers South known to be under a banning order. This case is pending investigation.

Tuesday

  • At 11:50 a.m., the theft of a bike was reported. The bike was locked in a bike rack at DuSable Hall on Nov. 18 and was discovered missing on Nov. 22. With no further information, this case is administratively closed.

Wednesday

  • At 3:57 a.m., several individuals were found on the roof of Still Hall without permission. All individuals were identified and given a verbal warning for criminal trespass to land.
  • At 9:41 a.m., criminal damage to motor vehicle was reported from Lot W. A vehicle had its driver’s side view mirror broken off. This case in now closed pending the discovery of new information.
