Local businesses prepare for Black Friday madness
November 22, 2010
The time where people get into a holiday shopping frenzy, clawing and scratching their way to savings is nearly upon us again.
Black Friday is right around the corner and as local stores and businesses gear up for the busiest shopping day of the year, some expect a good turnout for this sales season, even during these harder economic times.
“This will be my 23rd year and the shoppers always show,” said Lance Buser, store manager of Walmart, 2300 Sycamore Road. “Everybody has a Christmas and this is the time to get the good values.”
Since it is open 24 hours, Walmart will be kicking off Black Friday at 12:01 a.m.
In addition to electronics, Walmart will be selling video games at discounted prices and many DVD titles will be discounted.
Other stores such as Sears, 2518 Sycamore Road,, JCPenney 2450 Sycamore Road,, and Target, 2555 Sycamore Road, will be opening their doors at 4 a.m. While Kohl’s, 2070 Sycamore Road, will open at 3 a.m.
“That day pretty much everyone that we have works,” said Kohl’s manager Keith Griffin.
Also local stores, such as Cracker Jax, 118 N. Third Street, will be holding sales for Black Friday.
“We will be having all our jewelry 20 percent off and all our clothing is 20 to 50 percent off,” said owner Lauren Woods. “And we have gift wrap for every occasion.”
For those shoppers who would rather not brave the cold or the crowds, most stores offer the same in-store Black Friday deals online as well.
“I think everyone shops on Black Friday because it’s tradition,” said JCPenney store manager Ann Marie Heims.
