The Rant: reflect on Bobby Cox’s career

By Chris Dertz

DeKALB | I want everyone out there to stop what they’re doing and take a moment to reflect on what Bobby Cox meant to baseball, and what the game is losing with him walking away.

My brother is an Atlanta Braves fan, so I always had a lot of exposure to the long-time manager.

Cox’s record run of 14 straight division championships came at a time when steroids ran rampant in the MLB. This only lends credence to the fact that Cox was a classic baseball man in every sense, and always ran his teams the right way.

He always managed the right way, carried himself the right way, and even got himself ejected – 158 times – the right way.

Baseball is losing one of its giants, and the sport is worse off without Cox in the dugout.
