Mixmaster Revelle’s perfect mix

By Andrew Singer

Creating a crazy good mix-tape to boogie down to during warmups should, without a doubt, top the priority list of any good team.

Looking at the NFL, it is hard not to watch the warmups without seeing at least one player get his swerve on to Lil Wayne’s latest single. Can anyone blame him though? Of course not. Players need to get into the right mindset before game time.

The Northern Star recently sat down with DJ Kylie Revelle, midfielder on the NIU women’s soccer team and the mix master responsible for her team’s warmup CD.

“I’ve always been on the artsy side,” Revelle said. “I don’t know why. But I got on my Mac and used a program that allows you to mix songs together and spent probably around 20 hours getting the mix just right.”

The songs selected for the 36-minute CD didn’t all come from Revelle, instead the senior received input from the entire team.

“This summer, I sent out an e-mail,” Revelle said. “Basically telling the team to send me their top five songs they want on the CD.”

While her teammates sent their favorites for the CD, I’ve put together my own top five; made up of the best songs from the final product.

5.) Pop- *NSYNC

-Immediately upon hearing Justin Timberlake utter “Dirty Pop,” at the start of the song, without reaction everyone does a little shimmy shake and starts stepping side to side. So, this tune cracks the list for its sheer ability to make an athlete move.

4.) Boondock Saints Theme Song

-Paying homage to a former teammate that embraced her Irish heritage, Revelle believed this song to be necessary for the mix. The song was chosen for this list because it allows an athlete to take stock while an awful song runs.

3.) It’s Tricky- Run DMC

-This is just a great song and should be played in every circumstance possible. To be honest, I might put this song on the playlist to be played at my funeral.

2.) Shots -LMFAO

-EVERYBODY! This irresistible party hit almost took the top spot, but after the first 20 shots I started to get sick.

1.) Mortal Kombat Theme Song

-The top pick requires very little explanation. Nothing gets an athlete more pumped than hearing the beat from the iconic video game. I’ve seen 80-year-old women get up and dance to this beat.
