Lights out, Shawne Merriman.

The San Diego Chargers have announced that when the former All-World linebacker gets healthy, he’ll be on his way out.

NIU fans should be rejoicing, because this means that Larry English has a straight shot to the top.

OK, maybe not to the top. English is still recovering from foot surgery, so he may have to hobble his way into the starting spot. Nevertheless, when English returns, he should be getting the kind of playing time a first-round pick deserves.

Hopefully he can capitalize and eat quarterbacks alive like he used to.
