Voting registration deadline looming

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 2 general elections is Oct. 5.

Oct. 6 marks the first day of grace period voting and registration and runs until Oct. 26. According to the Cook County Clerk website,  “grace period registrants will either vote on touch screen voting equipment immediately after registering or by absentee paper ballot. Grace period registrants are not eligible to vote at the polls on Election Day or take part in early voting.”

Identification needed to register in person (two are needed):

  • Illinois driver’s license
  • Illinois state ID
  • Employee or student ID
  • Credit card
  • Social security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Utility bill in applicant’s name
  • Mail postmarked to the applicant
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Lease or rental contract
