Have we seen the passing of the teen heartthrob torch?

So Leo DiCaprio rocks my socks. Apparently, he rocks Zac Efron’s, too.

According to a report on E! Online Friday, quotes purportedly from DiCaprio were fabricated to insinuate that he had “total respect” for young teen dudes like Efron who handle the chick magnetness so well.

It was also falsely stated that DiCaprio was passing on the torch to Efron in the manner that he was the new teen heartthrob idol type.

Really? Seriously?

Are we going to compare Zac Efron to Leonardo DiCaprio, muse of Martin Scorsese, who starred in quite possibly the most romantic film of our generation? We’re seriously comparing them?

OK, I’m getting a cavity from all the saccharine in this story.

Let’s not start this. DiCaprio has had one of the most admirable careers in Hollywood.

He’s worked with acclaimed actors and even more acclaimed directors. Efron was in “Hairspray” and the “High School Musical” series. That’s it.

Give him a couple of decades, and then we’ll talk. Until then, let’s leave the Efron obsessing to “Tiger Beat” magazine. I’m sure they’re just oozing with good things to say about him.
