YouTube Britney Spears fan starting music career

By NYSSA BULKES

Chris Crocker is back.

Remember the rather androgynous-looking guy who wailed on YouTube in favor of leaving Britney alone? Well, surprise! He’s starting a music career.

In “A Decade of Internet Superstars: Where Are They Now,” JR Raphael for PC World chronicles the craziest of the crazies. Fifth on his list, to my ultimate surprise, was Ms. (he prefers it) Chris Crocker.

To show what Crocker is doing now, Raphael links to the now-singer’s Web site, where there’s a video waiting for unknowing Web surfers. The video is Crocker thanking his “fans” for helping his single debut at number 42 on the iTunes pop charts.

I’ll say it again: his single debuted at number 42 on the iTunes pop charts.

It’s official: If you’re really good at drumming on pots and pans in the kitchen, you should contact Richard Branson about a record deal with Virgin. If you have an awesome shower-singing voice, RCA would probably take your call right about now.

The music industry is desperate. Crocker’s single, “Mind in the Gutter,” is nothing but an over-produced voice with some heavy synthesizing and techno beats. The funny part is that Crocker actually looks like Britney Spears on the single cover.

Whoopie. We totally needed another Britney.

The video on his Web site, alone, is worth the click over there.
