Total Nonstop Action Wrestling pins DeKalb

To gear up professional wrestling fans for their first ever pay-per-view in Chicago, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling will be hosting events on the NIU campus and in DeKalb this week.

TNA University, a program which allows college-student-fans to work directly with the company, established an NIU chapter in order to get the word out on the wrestling promotion. TNAU will be on campus to help spread the word about the TNA pay-per-view event “Bound For Glory IV.”

Christy Hemme, TNA knockout, will be appearing Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Detox, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway, to help promote the event. The former Playboy playmate will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

“The Rock and Rave Infection’s own Christy Hemme will be at Detox nightclub,” said TNA University Director Alex Abrahantes. “Hemme plans to ‘infect’ 20 fans with ‘Bound For Glory’ tickets that night.”

Olympic gold medalist and former TNA world heavyweight champion Kurt Angle was originally supposed to take Hemme’s place, but had to be pulled from the appearance.

TNAU will also host a Midway TNA iMPACT! video game tournament on Oct. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Huskie Den. Contestants will be able to play the newly released video game “TNA iMPACT!” on the Playsation 3, XBOX 360 and Wii consoles.

“Fans will have an opportunity to compete against each other and win TNA prizes,” Abrahantes said. “The grand prize winner will win a pair of tickets to ‘Bound For Glory.'”

“Bound For Glory,” the promotions event equivalent to the Super Bowl, will feature some of TNA’s top stars, including “The Icon” Sting, Samoa Joe, Booker T and AJ Styles locking it up in the six-sided ring.

“Attending a TNA Live show is pure excitement from start to finish,” Abrahantes said. “Our wrestlers are larger-than-life personalities that give their all inside of the wrestling ring for our fans.”

The pay-per-view, which will be broadcast live nationwide, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

Students wanting to get involved with TNAU should visit tnawrestling.com or by stop by the video game tournament in the Huskie Den.
