The NIU softball team is looking to make a final push before the MAC Tournament.

The Huskies (12-26 overall, 6-10 MAC) will play non-conference rival Illinois State (25-18, 15-6 MVC) in a make-up game today at 6 p.m. The game is NIU’s last before its final homestand this weekend.

“It will be a good tune-up for this weekend,” NIU coach Lindsay Chouinard said. “Hopefully, it will get the girls prepared for the last MAC weekend.”

NIU will try to break a three-game losing streak and end its road trip on a high note.

“We want the girls to come out and play,” Chouinard said.

NIU lost a doubleheader against Akron over the past weekend. During the first game, NIU senior Michelle Nendza broke the Huskies’ single-season home run record with her 10th round tripper of the year. Nendza is leading the Huskie offense with a .304 batting average while knocking in 26 runs on the season.
