Student Showcase: Kevin Singer of Nash Taylor Cash

By LINDSEY KASTNING

Name: Kevin Singer

Year: Junior

Major: Media Studies

Hometown: Naperville

Nicknames: K.Sing

Favorite Movie: “Mighty Ducks 2” has to be the best movie ever, due to how well the hockey team members join together to defeat international teams. The old Ducks welcome in the new members eventually and show what it means to really be there for each other.

Favorite Television Series: Hands down, “The Office” is my favorite show, because of the awesome character Creed.

Favorite Food: I’d have to say that shrimp is one of my favorites.

Favorite Color: Black is my favorite color. It’s deep, mysterious and sexy.

Favorite Thing About Yourself: For sure, my eyebrows.

Favorite Quote: Winston Churchill’s words, “Never, ever, ever give up.”

What inspired your band’s name, Nash Taylor Cash?: The other two members are Joel Nash and Matt Taylor, and my favorite word is “cash.” I use it for everything. I’ve made it out to be a slang term. I use it to mean “awesome, crazy, no way.” When added to the band name, the name Nash Taylor Cash just seemed to flow.

What style music does your band play: We play alternative folk rock.

How did your band get started: After playing for the Campus C.R.U. (Campus Crusade for Christ) the band wanted to branch out from their normal gospel/worship style music to play other genres that all students could relate to. Also, Matt Taylor has an amazing beard that just screamed, “Put me in a band!”

Your band’s sound resembles: We sound like a blend of the Foo Fighters, The Snake the Cross the Crown and David Crowder.

Next performance: We perform [Friday] at Java 101 at 8 p.m. Our show is free. Can I emphasize that? Come because the show is free!

Advice to a freshman: Remember to fill up your gas tanks. Not only in car, but in the class room as well.
