OneCard gets a new face

This fall, the NIU OneCard will get a makeover.

The change in the OneCards was prompted by a new student system taking effect this fall, bursar Kinga Mauger said. This new system requires the magnetic strips on the current OneCards to be replaced.

“With the new system, there are new identifiers for students,” Mauger said. “With that, we’d have to recard the whole campus. So we figured we’d give it a new face as well.”

Until Jan. 27, students and faculty members can log on to the NIU OneCard Web site and vote on four looks for the new card.

“The designs were developed by our public affairs people on campus,” Mauger said. “So students could have a say, we put the four best designs up for vote.”

Mauger said all new students coming in for orientation will receive the new card. Current students will be notified via notices around campus when to replace their cards.

“Students can come in, hopefully this spring, and avoid the rush in the fall,” Mauger said.

Overall, Mauger feels it will be good to give the OneCard a fresh look.

“I think it’d be a nice change,” Mauger said. “The layout and photos on the cards have been the same for quite some time.”
