‘Mad Money’

Rating: 7 / 10

Starring

Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes, Ted Danson

Plot

When Bridget Cardigan (Keaton) discovers her husband (Danson) is being downsized, she uses her new job at a bank to steal unused money with the help of her two new friends, Jackie (Holmes) and Nina (Latifah).

The Good

For those who marked off “Mad Money” as a bore, there is much more to this film than a preview can give credit.

With an exceptional cast, “Mad Money” offers quick comedic dialogue and a story most people can relate to. While most people don’t daydream about careers as robbers, the film proves the point that all of us have things we want and, as Americans, we want them now.

Watching three women bond together to commit a felony is fresh and entertaining. Casting three familiar female faces intrigues the audience to watch as they go beyond their usual personas and become felons on the screen.

Holmes especially brings laughs as Jackie. It’s nice to see that the sweet “Dawson’s Creek” TV star has branched out to play a character that blows up trailers and is excited to rob a bank, simply because she can.

The Bad

While the film is no “Oceans 12” crime thriller, the only complaint against the film was the slow-moving opening. Even though no one should have to sit patiently through the first 10 minutes of the film, the next 103 minutes are worth waiting for.

The Lowdown

“Mad Money” offers relatable scenes through the use of blue-collar workers just trying to provide for their families. As a film the whole family can enjoy, it should not be missed.
