Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Who’ll Stop the Rain?”

Last Sunday I sat in my living room and sipped some coffee while watching “Meet the Press.”

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama was talking to Tim Russert, and that now fateful question of all political pundits came to the head of the interview. What would Barack do about the war in Iraq? And Senator Obama responded with a now formulaic response: “Whatever it takes.”

The fact that I am able to muster any sort of political inspiration is amazing when shining stars of politics are becoming tarnished by standard responses. Not much seems to have changed between now and the time when CCR wrote folk/blues songs about the Vietnam War.

I wasn’t alive then, but most of our politicians seem to talk like “Bobby” and make “deals wrapped in golden chains.” Despite the best efforts of politicians back then, and the promises of them now, “the rain” has never stopped.

Who’ll stop the rain? It seems that no one has the right answer, but someday someone might figure it out. Then again CCR would argue “Someday Never Comes.”
