Bel Air Princes bring Halloween to Hip-Hop

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “A Nightmare On My Street”

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince offer their advice on fending off Freddy Krueger in “A Nightmare On My Street.”

The 1988 song is a classic example of how hip-hop used to be fun and actually have a story, no matter how absurd it was.

In the song, the two go see “A Nightmare On Elm Street,” and soon enough “this homeboy named Fred” begins to terrorize the Fresh Prince.

The song is unintentionally funny just for its serious overtones and a ridiculous closing phone call, but with lines like “You are my favorite rapper/But now you must die,” the song is a true classic in the unauthorized horror movie rap genre.

Will Smith’s narrative, mixed with some rhymes from Freddy Kreuger himself, make for an entertaining Halloween-themed song.

With Wednesday being Halloween, perhaps you should take The Fresh Prince’s word as a warning so there won’t be a nightmare on your street.
