Freddie Krueger: Exposed

By PATRICK BATTLE

Full Name: Frederick Charles Krueger

Working Name: Freddy Krueger

First Appearance: Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare On Elm Street” (1984)

Sequels: 7

Wardrobe: Rugged jeans, black-and-green striped sweater, brown fedora, bladed leather glove.

Scars and Marks: Freddy has suffered extreme third-degree burns, resulting in severe disfiguration of his entire face and body.

Origin: Freddy was approached by demons of the “dream world” who bestowed upon him supernatural abilities that would extend his horrors beyond the grave.

Abilities: Freddy can take full control of your dreams. He can look into your subconscious and use your worst fears against you, taking any form and providing any scenery necessary to manipulate you. These capabilities make for some very bizarre and creative methods of evildoing.

Low-Down: Freddy Krueger is one of the few memorable horror icons that haven’t had to endure decade after decade of complete and utter silence (such as Jason Voorhees and The Shape aka Michael Myers). His witty one-liners (imagine a more outspoken Archie Bunker with a thirst for homicide) and trademark bladed glove have helped him carve out a permanent niche in horror movie history. Let’s face it, more people probably know who haunts Elm Street than they know who runs Congress. He’s the boogeyman of the 20th century.
