Law and Order: SVU come back with a case

By PATRICK BATTLE

Everyone’s favorite TV New York police squad is back.

NBC continued its stroke of genius with the return its hit drama “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” The ninth-season of the Golden Globe winning show will continue to take on the shocking and bizarre criminal world.

The series, which is the better of the three major Law & Order programs, centers on a special unit of detectives and lawyers who deal with cases involving sex-related crimes and crimes against children. Its stars are Christopher Meloni, Emmy-winner Mariska Hargitay, comedian Richard Belzer, Dann Florek and rapper Ice-T.

In the second episode of the season, “Avatar,” a young woman who entertains men via a virtual identity on the Web is kidnapped. Detectives Elliot Stabler (Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Hargitay) are hot on the case, with help from Detectives Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T) and newcomer Detective Chester Lake (Adam Beach). Throughout their investigation, they are exposed to an eerie world of Web-based communities and have to follow a trail of virtual clues that technically don’t exist.

To no surprise, the plot twists come without warning and keep things interesting for the entire hour.

This show never fails to come up with a shocking and unthinkable concept. And believe me – this is just the beginning.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” airs 9 p.m. Tuesdays on NBC.
