DeKALB | A student is currently under investigation for suspected possession of child pornography.

The incident was reported at 6:57 a.m. April 27 in Grant Towers South. The student was not arrested.

The individual under investigation has been issued a banning letter by the university until the investigation is complete, said University Police Lt. Curtis Young. The letter bans the individual from all residence halls and may ultimately be revoked or made permanent based on the outcome of the investigation, Young said.

The investigation is ongoing.

“In these types of cases, you want to do the best you can to balance the safety of the community with the rights of the individual,” Young said. “We want to remove the possibility of that activity away from the area until the person has been cleared.”
