Patsy Cline tribute hits House

The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, will hold a combined Patsy Cline tribute concert, volunteer thank-you and fundraiser for the DeKalb Public Library on Oct. 14. The library is finishing up a fundraising push that took place this summer, said Jill Sanderson, one of the singers playing at the fundraiser.

The event will be open to the public.

The fundraiser starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from the circulation desk at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak Street, or at the door. The proceeds of the event will go to benefit an endowment put in place for the library.

Any questions can be directed to the library at 815-756-9568 ext. 2.

The fundraiser will feature a Patsy Cline cover band fronted by Sanderson and Melissa Bowman, along with piano player Denny Vaupel and drummer Joe Pasteris.

“I had done the show before and the library asked if I wanted to do it again, ” said Sanderson.

Sanderson and Bowman have both listened to Cline’s music almost all their lives, and find her to be very interesting.

When the two met, they discovered they shared the same interest and decided to start a cover band that highlights Patsy Cline.

The band first performed the act at Corn Fest two years ago and continues to play around DeKalb.

Patsy Cline was born as Virginia Patterson Hensley in Winchester, Virginia. She was born Sept. 8, 1932 and died in a 1963 airplane crash in Tennessee.

She has since been elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
