Bands receive fan press in Douglas Hall cafeteria

By Christopher Norman

Bands profiled on MySpace.com rocked the usually quiet Douglas Hall cafeteria Saturday.

Five bands performed in the cafeteria from 6 to 10 p.m. in a show hosted by the Residence Hall Association.

The first band, NBT, opened the show with “Chicago.”

During the show, one of the band members shouted, “I wish they served alcohol, you guys would be more rowdy,” in reaction to the subdued attitude of the crowd. Bottles of Gatorade filled with clear liquid circulated the crowd most of the night. Free drinks also were provided from the dining hall’s soda fountain.

“This next song is called ‘The Break-up Song,'” said Jason Fein, lead singer. The crowd immediately responded with a resounding “aww.”

The New Diet was scheduled to play second but was delayed. Myllhouse took its place in the lineup after a half-hour wait. Myllhouse also has played at the House of Blues and The Metro.

A couple of audience members said they only came to the show to see The Awesomes. At the start of their performance, the band’s banner fell on drummer Bobby Clawson twice. He kept playing despite the distraction.

Screamo rock band Dear Me, Dear You ended the show.

Senior journalism major Dan Minogue said his favorite part was “when the drummer of The Awesomes pointed at me and did a stick roll.”
