Alumni to perform to on ‘The Tonight Show’

By Kartikay Mehrotra

NIU Alumni Tony Kidonakis and Rich Moore will perform tonight on “The Tonight Show” at 10:35 p.m. on NBC. Kidonakis and Moore both graduated from the School of Music and will play the baritone and alto saxophones, respectively, along with tenor saxophonist Jeff Snyder, who plays with Kidonakis in a Chicago swing band.

The trio will perform with The Redwalls, an Illinois-based band whose first album debuted in June. The trio first played with the band at a sold-out release party in Chicago.

The band and trio will play “Build a Bridge,” which Kidonakis describes in an NIU press release as “a nod to an old soul tune.”

Kidonakis and Moore both came to NIU in 1997 and were involved in the NIU Jazz Ensemble. Kidonakis is now an elementary school band director in Downers Grove, and Moore plays professionally with Chicago-area jazz and salsa groups and teaches private music lessons.
