“Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 1”

By Brayton Cameron

The HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” appears to be a documentary of comic genius Larry David. There is only one problem: there is no way the things in the show could actually happen to anyone. The use of very natural lighting, the too-bizzare-to-be-completely-fake situations, and casting some of Larry David’s real friends blurs the line of reality and fiction even further, but I think that is part of the charm. Each of the 10 episodes on the first season DVD set is filled with such weird situations as driving to your porn-star friend’s dinner party or worrying about the material of your pants bunching up and looking like an erection. In the end, the humor is dry and filled with as much of the apathy as one would expect from the co-creator of “Seinfeld,” a position which is referenced in the show as a joke quite often.
