Local theater to display Batman memorabilia

Several items from the movie “Batman Begins” will be displayed Sunday at the Carmike Market Square 10 cinema at 2160 Sycamore Road from 4 until 7:15 p.m.

Bruce Hendrickson, who has worked on movie sets for seven years, will meet and greet fans and show off his collection of items from the movie.

“I just want to share pieces of movie history,” Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson repaired vehicles that were used in different scenes and sets, including the Batmobile and police and nondescript cars.

“If it broke, we fixed it,” he said.

The movie, which was filmed partly in Chicago last summer, was a great experience, Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson recalls seeing the Caped Crusader come down a building and speaking with cast members Katie Holmes and Michael Caine.

Items on display include a large piece of the Batmobile signed by the designer, vehicle license plates from the film, Gotham City newspaper bins, call sheets, and part of Katie Holmes’ script, among other things.

Hendrickson was not interested in collecting movie memorabilia until he saw these items.

Collectors should not expect to find these items on eBay anytime soon. Hendrickson made a promise to Andy Smith, the designer of the Batmobile, who never wants to see those items on the Internet.
