Lifehouse: self-titled

By Lindsey Rosati

If the third time really is the charm, the boys of Lifehouse just got lucky.

Finally surpassing the dreadful comparison to Matchbox Twenty and Vertical Horizon, Lifehouse has moved on to a more serene maturity on its self-titled third album.

Singer/songwriter Jason Wade’s genuine lyrics and soothing vocals and drummer Rick Woolstenhulme’s beats help create a soothing and spiritual mood.

“Walking Away” is a tranquil ballad with lyrics like “As an old man cries/Never thought/To ever think twice/Of all he had/Of all he lost/A selfish life I guess/Comes with a cost.”

Now with a sound that holds a close comparison to Howie Day and John Mayer, Lifehouse doesn’t entirely leave behind the semi-alternative rock sound which helped make them famous. Songs like “Hanging by a Moment” and “Sick Cycle Carousel” from their 2000 debut “No Name Face” kick-started their popularity.

Some of the key tracks to pay attention to on this album are: “You and Me,” “Days Go Bye” and “Undone.”

Keep this up, Lifehouse, because you’re getting close to something.
