Adema: Planets

By Collin Quick

When the planets align in celestial convergence every now and then, the Earth’s gravity gives and everyone starts floating around. At least, that’s what we learned from an episode of “Pinky and the Brain.”

With the repetitive distorted guitar riff running through nearly every song, a double kick drum (not in the Wilco sense) and crashing cymbals dominating the rhythm section, Adema brings nothing new to the table with “Planets.”

“Tornado” reeks of a bad Nickelback single – and that’s a compliment to Nickelback, which can produce singles that dominate the charts for months on end.

“My conscience finally feels clean,” singer Luke Caraccioli screams over and over again.

Really? A clean conscience would lead you to release this album? Odd.

The title track follows suit to the true power ballad form: quiet, finger-picked intro and verses; distorted choruses and the reflective bridges, and one can almost picture cigarette lighters held high in the air.

Nothing good comes off the album and slowly the band begins to follow along the lines of Linkin Park and every other bad opening act that ruins one’s night out to see a show.
