Greek beauty pageant held for good cause

Delta Zeta sorority will host its Dream Man and Greek Goddess competition at 7 p.m. today in the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

As the Dee Zee’s 10th annual philanthropy, all money raised will go to Gallaudet University, the only four-year hearing-impaired university in the world, competition co-coordinator Marisa Knudsen said. The show usually raises around $3,000.

The competition is a beauty pageant including a question and answer portion, a talent portion and a swimwear and formalwear portion, Knudsen said.

“In the past, we’ve had anything from musical artists to someone who decided to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich,” she said.

Only members of the Greek community are participating in this year’s competition, but in future years, Delta Zeta hopes to open the pageant to other organizations on campus.

Those picked to win are the ideal Greek leaders. They should be very involved in the university and Greek life and have good morals, Knudsen said.
