Fair brings chances for internships

By Laurel Marselle

Career Services is sponsoring an Internship Career fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the Holmes Student Center Duke Ellington Ballroom.

About 85 to 88 companies are expected to attend the fair, along with about 1,000 students, said Rick Clark, director of campus relations for career services.

Students should bring their updated resumes and arrive dressed in business attire.

“Students should be just as serious about this process as if they were looking for a job after graduation,” Clark said.

To prepare for events such as this, students can make appointments with counselors in the Career Services office to receive assistance in writing resumes. Career Services also holds business etiquette dinners and mock interviews, Clark said.

Clark said NIU internship fairs in the past have worked effectively. Following last week’s job fair, Career Services received many e-mails from students saying the office assisted in getting them an interview or a job.
