Charity comedy show to be held tonight

By Shureice Kornegay

Philia Productions, BIC and A.L.M.A. will be presenting the Sugar and Spice Comedy Jam from 7:30 to 10 p.m. today in the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

Three top comedians will grace the stage.

Frank Townsend, a regular performer on B.E.T.’s Comic View, Vanessa Fraction, who recently lent her talent to the hit movie Barbershop 2 and Ricky Carmona, a rising star in Chicago’s comedy clubs, will perform.

The show is part entertainment and part charity event, since a portion of the proceeds will go toward building the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C.

“This is a way for students to give back and have fun at the same time,” said Excell Lewis, an NIU alumnus and co-founder of Philia productions.

There are plenty of tickets left, Lewis said.

Tickets are $10 in advance for NIU students and $15 at the door. Raffle tickets for various prizes–including free tickets to the upcoming Nelly concert–will also be on sale at the event.

Tickets are on sale at the CAB ticket office from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. today. Students can contact the ticket office at 753-3146 or visit www.philiaproductions.com for information.
